A Dance Studio Out of Passion
Hölgyválasz was founded in 2005 as a joint venture of three good friends, dancers, dance teachers. After an unexpected level of quick success, they had to pick a new place, a much larger one like before and diversify the dances - and invite some more teachers to be able to cope with the demand (and of course with the costs that come with scale). They found this place near the Opera House, the former headquarters of an old communist company that fell into disuse after the political changes in 1989. Big spacious interior, nice woodwork and a lot of potential. Also a lot of work. They started to build the studio of their dreams, the one they never had.
Of course it wasn't and it isn't easy, but the progress is already great. They touched up the interior, created a system to ease the administration of the hundreds of people that visit every day and continuosly work on making dancing and the learning process a community experience, instead of just another burden.
After the change to market economy the courses for hobby dancers, non-professionals slowly started to migrate from the community houses previously sponsored and administered by the local committees to private establishments, which usually meant, that each dance teacher was on his or her own. Most dance schools in the countryside operated as a part of the programme of local government sponsored community houses, while in the capital where they had connections or luck to get a room - which became increasingly difficult with the steeply rising estate prices. This is the reason why are there only a few dance schools that has its own dance studio and most of them barely has more than the minimum requirements both in terms of services and interior.
We always wanted to create a dance studio that you can only see in hollywood movies. We do not dare to hope to have everything in place from the beginning, but we trust that shortly we will realize everything we planned!
